How to Breed Pokémon – Complete Breeding Guide
Breeding is one of the most powerful ways to create a competitive Pokémon. By selecting the right parents, held items, and egg groups, you can pass down ideal stats, moves, natures, and abilities.
1. Egg Groups
Two Pokémon must share at least one egg group to produce an Egg. Ditto is a universal breeder and can pair with almost any breedable Pokémon regardless of egg group.
2. Passing Down IVs
Hold a Destiny Knot on one parent to pass down 5 of the 12 combined IVs. Power items guarantee the IV of a specific stat. A 6-IV Ditto is the ideal universal breeding parent.
3. Egg Moves
An egg move is passed from a parent who knows that move. In Gen 6+, either parent can pass egg moves. Chain breeding through intermediate species may be needed for rare moves.
4. Nature & Ability
Hold an Everstone on a parent to guarantee passing its Nature. A female parent (or Ditto) with a Hidden Ability will pass it down with approximately 60% chance.
5. Masuda Method
Breeding two Pokémon from games of different languages increases the Shiny chance from 1/4096 to 1/683 (or 1/512 with the Shiny Charm).
